Projects

The Cass Soil and Water Conservation District's mission is to provide leadership, technical, and financial assistance to landowners in the conservation and management of soil and water resources.  To achieve this goal, the District partners with private citizens to implement sustainable practices on private lands.

Soil & Livestock Health

Summer and winter watering tanks are essential components of rotational grazing systems. Rotating livestock through different paddocks allows the plants and the soil to rest and recover. The Cass Soil and Water Conservation District contributed to this project, which not only enhances cattle health and increases the producer's return on investment but also improves water quality within the watershed.

Shoreline Workshop

Cass SWCD works with local property owners on shoreline workshops every summer to stabilize the shore and develop native, vegetative buffers. These workshops reduce the overall cost while teaching property owners how to maintain their shoreline buffer.

Stormwater Mitigation

A stormwater project funded by the Cass Soil and Water Conservation District is effectively reducing nutrient and sediment runoff into the Boy River. By implementing advanced filtration systems and natural buffers, the project helps prevent harmful pollutants from entering the river. This initiative not only improves water quality but also supports the health of aquatic ecosystems and enhances the river's overall resilience.

Shoreline Restorations

Cass SWCD uses Clean Water Legacy dollars to protect the water quality in Cass County by partnering with landowners to install shoreline buffers that reduce shoreline loss while protecting the lake from excess sediment and phosphorus run-off.  Cass SWCD provided cost share to restore this parcel in Wabedo Township.
